Raw Edges is a London-based studio comprising Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay, both born in Tel Aviv in 1976. Their collaboration began in 2007, after they met while studying Design Products at the Royal College of Art. Mer’s primary focus is turning two-dimensional sheet materials into functional forms, whilst Alkalay is fascinated by how objects move, function, and react. Together they create experimental installation and furniture objects that blur the boundaries between design and art.
In addition to the limited editions they produce from their own studio, Mer and Alkalay have developed products for major brands, including Cappellini, Established & Sons, and Arco.
