Vintage Design

Nice and early floor lamp designed by designed duo Franco Albini and Franca Helg and manufactured by Sirrah, Italy 1969. This floor lamp is from the AM/AS series designed by Albini and Helg in 1969. The AM/AS series was a large modular light system where all bases and shades could be combined because of an ingenious switch system in the shades. All the parts had a specific number, for example this floor lamp base was number AS2. This lamp is very unusual in full white, and fully original condition. This series was one of the most productive design from Sirrah. Super quality lamps, heavy quality, nicely shaped and gives very nice warm light when lit. The lamp uses 2x E27 bulbs up to 100 watt each. Lamp is in good original condition, no damages to the glass only the original white painted base has some minor wear from age and usage. This lamp is checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is suitable for use in the USA. For US usage you would only have to change the plug or get a holiday converter if needed for a floor or table lamp.

About the Creator

Franco Albini

Born near Milan in 1905, Franco Albini was an Italian architect, urban planner, and furniture designer active between the 1930s and the 1960s. He studied architecture at Milan’s famous Politecnico, apprenticed under master architect-designer Gio Ponti, and played a key role in formulating the Rationalist movement in Italy prior to World War II.

Throughout the post-war era, Albini continued to create furniture and architecture aimed at purity of expression through modularity and affordable materials. While his work tends toward formal reduction, it also maintains a warmth and charm that stems from his enduring respect for context and tradition.

Albini worked with various mid-century manufacturers during his lifetime, including Cassina, Arflex, Poggi, Arteluce, Brionvega, and Knoll, and many of his designs are still in production. He received multiple awards for his work, including three prestigious Compasso d’Oro Awards.
