pair of valentino terracotta vases by vanvitelli alla reggia di caserta 20th century royal cup, drawing by "vanvitelli" described in the book: "terrecotte in the neatheropean tradition" by agostino bossi large vase with classical relief decorations; the pattern of festoons alternating with masks on the smooth surface, the considerable dimensions, the balance of proportions between base and container give it a particular archaic elegance. the presence of this object is frequent in the representations of the landscape artists of central italy in the 19th century. once upon a time numerous specimens could be observed in the "reggia di caserta", along the via rampante, under the dolphin fountain (l. and c. vanvitelli). to date, we have investigated, the vases have disappeared and we cannot understand where the administration placed them. perhaps at the capodimonte museum in naples. height 62 cm artist / creator / architect luigi vanvitelli (naples, 12 may 1700 – caserta, 1 march 1773) square base - side x side 26 x 26 cm external diameter 49 cm internal diameter 43 cm material terracotta good conditions
