Pair of portraits of the Vanderbilt family signed Georges C. Michelet (1873 -?) Table of the early twentieth century signed by its creator. Vanderbilt is Carole and her husband. These portraits are exhibited in golden wooden frames. While photography is a technique and a nascent art (invention by Nicephore Niepce in 1826), the portrait genre is particularly flourishing in painting and sculpture. The bourgeoisie, both actor and beneficiary of the industrial revolution, accesses the purchasing power that allows him to become a sponsor.
