The virgin sits beneath an archway and hands the crown of thorns to the angel on her left who, looking into her face, almost seems to want to try to ease her pain with the reassurance of eternal bliss. In the background stands the cross on Mount Calvary where Jesus Christ was crucified.

Mary wears a red robe with a brown headdress, along her shoulders and legs a blue cloak, in her right hand a nail used for crucifixion.

The angel seated next to Mary Magdalene has gold-colored wings, while inside they are in ochre hue, the white robe falls softly on him while with a white sheet he receives the crown of thorns that Magdalene hands him.
