About This Piece

Bronze sculpture with brown patina, "The harvest", signed Léon Pilet (1840-1916). An allegorical subject representing a woman draped in the antique style, wearing a crown of wheat ears and pearls. She holds in her right hand a scythe and in her left hand a bunch of wheat. On the base is engraved "Concours de la race ovine Berrichonne du cher - 2 Mai 1905 - Prix d'honneur - Mr. Edme Jules". The bronze rests on a wooden base covered with a red velvet that enhances the elegant look of the sculpture. Léon Pilet is a French artist of the XIXth century who exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1861 to 1914 and was distinguished at the Exposition Universelle of 1889.
