Large 19th Century Peak Candleholder in Golden Wood Leaf

Large pickery or pencil candlestick, in carved and golden wood, adorned with foliage, bulls and acanthus leaves resting on a tripod base.
This sumptuous room was restored in our workshops and completely golden with 24 -carat gold leaf.

The candlestick is a piece of church furniture present in each church and placed on the altar. It is a bougie holder intended to support a single candle.
Its use dates back to the very origins of the Church and is obvious and indissoluble to the symbol of light as an expression of faith, hope and resurrection of Christ.

The candlestick was once placed on the ground and only in a successive period was arranged on the altar before the start of the celebration to be stored after mass. In addition, the candlestick could be put next to a variable number of candlesticks depending on the day of celebration or the celebration.

The shape of the candlestick derives from its initial use as a piece of profane furniture in the prechretian era: a foot, a rod, a plate for wax and a spike on which the candle is stuck.
Over time, the candlesticks reached increasingly large dimensions and an increasingly advanced treatment of the shape and decorations.

Manufacturing materials have also evolved with a wide use of gold, silver and other precious metals, but also simpler materials such as wood and brass, according to the means of the church.
