«Estados de un Cuerpo VIII», 2019 Acrylic on linen. Jorge Cabieses, Lima, Peru, 1971. He studied Fine Arts at the Corriente Alterna School in Lima. His geometric and spatial work refers to elements and colors taken from Peruvian popular culture. From planes, lines and fields of color, he builds a pictorial work that questions the viewer's gaze and takes it towards new meanings where the image, sometimes hidden by its own geometry, is projected towards other realities. Cabieses fosters new spaces for reflection for painting where to confront canons traditionally linked to the construction of the image in Latin America, such as the obsession with narration. In his work, the artist proposes the alternative of a constructive and spatial tension where painting goes beyond its own limits to appropriate the space. Jorge Cabieses' work is developed on a variety of media such as canvas, wood, vintage lithographic images and paper, in all of them the artist proposes a new way of looking at painting. Jorge Cabieses has been selected in 2012 and 2014 for the Cisneros Foundation (CIFO) Scholarship and Commission Program for emerging artists. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Lima (MALI); at the Casa de América in Madrid and at the Museum of the Nation in Lima. It has also been selected by the curator Cecilia Fajardo Hill for the Sagayo & Pardon Collection of Latin American Art (2014), as well as for the exhibition Ojo Latino Miradas de un Continente from the Luciano Benetton Collection (2009), presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art from Santiago de Chile.
