kita Inu (Japanese: Akita Inu/あきたいぬ/アキタイヌ Akita Inu*), also known as "Odate Inu", is a type of Japanese dog and the only large dog breed among the six Japanese dog breeds that are national natural monuments. In Japan, sending statues and photos of Akita dogs means “wishing you a speedy recovery.” In Japan, it is a family companion dog known for its loyalty to its owner. Japan's famous loyal dog, Hachiko, is the Akita dog.
