French Napoleon III Empire Bowl with Putti Decoration, 1860s or 1870s

Vintage Design

Excellent Empire-style decorative centerpiece bowl, from around 1860/70: standing on a tripod base, figural decorative base of gilded bronze in the form of three putti or cupids draped with vine leaves, which seem to carry on their shoulders the ornamented ring in which the round, massive bowl of black-green marble sits. The putti figures are distinctively finely crafted with their open, accentuated eyes. There are three very difficult to read monogram stamps on the bottom, probably "EH". A crystal glass bowl with the same figural putti base is known to be an oreignus of the famous Baccarat manufactory. Exceptionally high quality chasing and gilding. Decoration on main product picture not part of the offer. Condition: very good, minor signs of age and use, minor
abrasion.
