About This Piece

Vintage Design

Unique Danish Modern pendants handmade in the 1970s by artist Jette Hellerøe at Axella studio, Denmark. The lamps are made from stoneware and finished in an expressive glossy red glazing. Original red wire included. While Hans J. Wegner, Kaare Klint and Finn Juhl led the way for the success of Denmarks dominance at the field of modern furniture production Danish arts and crafts was also flourishing. The most well-known names are probably Silversmith George Jensen, Ceramist Axel Salto and Woodworker Kay Bojesen, but despite Denmark's modest size, there were a multitude of small workshops with arts and crafts that produced high-quality objects to everyday life. Much of it was sold directly from the workshops, but also more established shops such as "Den Permanente" and "Illums Bolighus" in Copenhagen exhibited and sold works from these workshops in the 1940-1970s.
