Bronze with brown patina, signed Charles Anfrie (1833-1905), a French sculptor known for his many bronzes referring to historical, mythological and daily life.
The work, titled on the terrace ‘’ on the breach ’’, represents a lieutenant of the 12th Hussars regiment, well recognizable by its uniform.
The frying officer is standing, on the edge of a trench, a shell at his feet, and his sword in one hand. He carefully scrutinizes enemy lines.
Testimony of the soldiers at the front, this work, immortalized by the artist, will delight with its charisma and finely chiseled details.
