19th Century Credenza in Marble and Marquetry, Catalonia

Wonderful entredós or sideboard made in the 20th century in Catalan territory. It presents extraordinary marquetry work, a dove-chest beveled white marble top and bronze fittings. Sinuous profile, the structure is organized into two central doors and an upper register; enriched by two pilasters that flank the front of this entredos in absolute symmetry. These ebonized pilasters are embellished with gilt bronze ornaments. For their part, the two doors present two important medallions or cartouches outlined in bronze representing a kind of muse that follows the canons of antiquity. Furthermore, continuing with this great work of marquetry, all the elements of the furniture present a damask profile made with fruit woods (lemongrass) that contrast greatly with the rosewood and cedar veneer. These lines serve to accentuate the geometric shapes of the furniture. On the sides, a square cartouche with an exquisite parrot that perches and tangles among the foliage. The entire piece of furniture is raised with a kind of base, also adorned with delicate bronze ornaments, which describe grotesque repertoires. It is a piece of furniture with a heterogeneous and historicist trend, which combines elements and techniques characteristic of other periods such as the Renaissance.
